Abstract:
In this talk I will present a (somewhat personalized) over-view of the past 25 years' endeavors to develop useful quantum technologies. I will touch on topics such as quantum key distribution, quantum teleportation, quantum computing and quantum metrology, describing how far we have come and the challenges that still remain.
Bio:
Daniel James is a Welshman, born in exile in rainy Manchester, in northwest England. He was educated at the University of Oxford and at The Institute of Optics, Âé¶¹´«Ã½, (where he got his Ph.D. with Emil Wolf in 1992). He was a staff member in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory for a decade or so before joining the faculty of the University of Toronto in September, 2005. He works in theoretical optical physics and quantum information.
